Reflects on One-Year Anniversary of I-35
Bridge Collapse, Commends Minneapolis
Emergency Communications Center
Temecula, CA —
August 1, 2008 marked the one-year
anniversary of the I-35 bridge collapse in
Minneapolis, Minnesota, a tragedy Americans
will not soon forget. As PlantCML pauses to
remember the lives lost and honors the
survivors of that tragic summer day, the
company also commends heroic efforts of the
city’s first responders, including the
Minneapolis Emergency Communications Center.
Having received the
prestigious 2008 9-1-1 Outstanding Call
Center Award from the E9-1-1 Institute
in Washington, DC, the Minneapolis Emergency
Communications Center was recognized for its
effective handling of more than three times
its normal call volume within the first two
hours of the bridge collapse.
“The staff of the
Minneapolis Emergency Communications Center
was able to handle all of the incoming calls
without missing a beat or a call, and
communicate seamlessly with emergency
organizations throughout the metro region,”
said Tim Fuller, President of PlantCML.
“Congratulations are due to the Minneapolis
9-1-1 team for a job well done. On behalf of
the entire PlantCML team, we are honored to
work with such a top-notch group of
emergency professionals.”
Serving a daytime
population of 500,000, the award-winning
Minneapolis Emergency Communications Center
employs 87 call takers, has 25 workstations
and answers around 650,000 9-1-1 and 500,000
non-emergency 3-1-1 calls each year. Since
1999, the Center has deployed the call
processing, dispatch and mapping solutions
of industry leader PlantCML, now an EADS
North America company.
