Juniata County Installs Cutting Edge
9-1-1 Call Center Technology
New
Web-Based Technology Helps Officials Quickly
Locate Incidents, Dispatch Personnel
Mifflintown, Penn. –
Juniata County, Penn.’s 9-1-1 call center
has been re-outfitted with cutting edge
Internet Protocol (IP)-based technology that
will better serve the emergency needs of
almost 30,000 residents throughout the rural
county. The new system was developed through
a partnership between PlantCML, North
America’s leader in mission-critical
communications, and Embarq (NYSE: EQ) and
will allow officials to efficiently process
calls, better identify locations and quickly
dispatch emergency personnel throughout the
region.
“In a rural county like Juniata, being able
to locate exactly where an emergency has
occurred is paramount,” said Allen Weaver,
director of emergency services for Juniata
County. “This new system dramatically
improves our mapping capabilities, allowing
us to target incidents in less than 90
seconds. And because it is IP-based, we will
be able to add on features as our needs
change in the future.”
The backbone of the new communications
system is PlantCML’s Sentinel® Patriot™
product, an emergency call processing
solution that will run on Embarq’s voice and
data IP network. Sentinel Patriot will serve
as the primary call-taking and dispatching
phone system for Juniata County. It boasts
fault-tolerant redundancy, Automatic Call
Distribution (ACD), and other features
focused on strengthening the reliability and
speed of the 9-1-1 call process.
“Juniata County is truly on the leading edge
by adopting this advanced 9-1-1 call center
system,” said Wayne Finkey, Embarq Project
Manager. “Many organizations are turning
towards IP-based solutions because they are
flexible, offer more advanced features
and—most importantly—enable 9-1-1 centers to
accomplish their mission of responding as
fast as possible to an emergency.”
PlantCML and Embarq worked with Juniata
officials to install the product in March,
and will continue to provide ongoing
support. For more information, please visit:
